The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina is preparing a new design of convertible banknotes, and 21.5 million KM is planned for the production of new banknotes.
The Governing Council of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina made an official decision on the basic features and design of convertible bank notes for denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 KM.
The news about the new design of the banknotes caused numerous reactions in the public, especially due to the announcements that the long-standing, recognizable colors that citizens use every day will be changed on some denominations.
As Fokus unofficially learns, the new banknotes should be presented to the public in 2027, while their release into circulation is planned for 2028.
The competent institutions note that the design that has been circulating on social networks for the past few days, and which was claimed to show the new look of the convertible brand, is not correct. These are visuals generated by artificial intelligence, which have no basis in the actual design of the new banknotes.
For the implementation of this project, the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina has already announced a tender for the production of new banknotes, and the planned procurement value is 21.5 million KM.
Tender criteria are strict. The Central Bank seeks from potential partners successful and proven experience in the realization of at least one contract in the last three years, the total value of which is at least ten million euros, and the subject of which was the production of euro banknotes.
In addition, the bidder who will be in charge of printing convertible stamps must have his own laboratory for controlling the quality of paper and ink.
A special condition applies to the paper that will be used for the production of new KM banknotes. It must be produced by a manufacturer that has the official accreditation of the European Central Bank for the production of euro paper, it says RTV SLon.
