The German Football League (DFL) has revealed that 36 Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga clubs in the 2024/25 season. achieved total revenue of 6.33 billion euros, which is the highest in history.
The figures, released in a report on Monday, show an increase of 7.9 percent compared to the 5.87 billion euros generated in the previous season.
Eighteen Bundesliga clubs achieved it for the first time revenue exceeding five billion euros. With 5.12 billion euros, the previous record from last year was surpassed by 320.8 million euros, which is an increase of 6.7 percent.
The increase was achieved by clubs from the second leaguelast season they reported revenues of 1.21 billion euros, which is a growth of 13.1 percent.
For clubs in the elite class of German football, they had the largest share revenues from media and broadcastingwhich accounted for 33.24 percent of total revenues and increased by almost EUR 168 million. Revenues from matches, which accounted for 11.69 percent of the total revenue of Bundesliga teams, increased by 75.3 million euros. Clubs also benefited from a slight increase in advertising and merchandise sales, and achieved EUR 872.6 million in transfer income which is 132.2 million euros less than last season.
Salary costs continue to dominate expenditure and they increased last season, but German teams are also spending more in other areas.
Public finances also benefit from this growth. Almost 1.7 billion euros went into taxes and customs duties. Over the past ten seasons, German professional football has paid more than 14 billion euros in taxes and social contributions. The number of jobs in the industry also reached a new high. A total of 64,122 people were directly or indirectly employed by the clubs and their subsidiaries. Compared to the previous year, the number of jobs increased by 2,395 or 3.9 percent.
German professional football is in better shape than ever before, according to key figures. This does not mean that there is nothing more to optimize. On the contrary, in the coming years we will have to continue to develop areas such as talent development and internationalization and strengthen centralized marketing.
