Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested that the scheduled criminal proceedings against him, in which he was supposed to testify this Sunday, be canceled because of the operation to remove his prostate, which he was supposed to perform today.
Netanyahu’s request, which his lawyer Amit Hadad sent to the Jerusalem District Court, states that the prime minister will undergo surgery under full anesthesia and will remain in the hospital for “several days,” the Times of Israel reports.
“At this moment, the court is being asked to cancel the trials scheduled for this Sunday,” Hadad said, adding that he would “inform the court about the further development of the situation.”
Netanyahu began testifying on December 10 and has so far testified six times in court on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust.
