Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are increasingly looking for practical and fast solutions for daily movement – despite numerous obstacles and non-existence of a single legal framework.
The ride of electric romobys is becoming increasingly popular in urban areas. It is not just a practical choice due to speed and economy, but also a way to avoid city crowds and parking problems.
Admir, who has used Romobil for two years as a primary transportation, says this type of transport has many advantages.
“It’s cheaper than fuel, easier, especially in summer. It’s nice – I’m not cooking it, I’m a bicycle. I’m at work, so I’m not to be careful, I’m going this way, it’s all outlined, lightly, get on Semaphore, be careful. Savings of all kinds of spring, but it is definitely top, “explains Admir.
On the occasion of the European Mobility Week, which promotes a change in behavior in favor of active mobility, public transport and other “green” solutions, we also discussed citizens about their daily habits.
One interlocutor states that public transport is better variant:
“And because of the parking spaces and because of the crowd crowd on the road.”
Public city transportation options is for others.
“Public transport – it is simpler, I do not have to park anywhere, pay parking,” other interlocutors points out.
But some is the choice of bicycle or hiking.
“Bicycle, but I like to walk on foot – that’s my choice. But the car is something we need, although it’s all the public transport is quite fine,” the third interviewees.
Experts confirm that the trend of using small means of transport and public transport is expanding, but warns of restrictions.
“If we do not work other measures – to actually support it, we remain a very low percentage. As it is still important for traffic infrastructure. What infrastructure we build, such participants,” says Dragan Kabić, European Week Coordinator Mobility in BiH.
In this context, the legal framework becomes key. While in the Republika Srpska, the use of electric romobiles is regulated by the Law on Traffic Safety on the roads, in the Federation of BiH, such law does not yet exist. Romobil drivers thus do not have unique rules or safety standards, which makes it difficult to plan urban infrastructure.
“The appearance of mini-wheeled rhomobiles, they range higher speeds – require greater precision trails in the sidewalk, where you usually have improperly executed curbs in the transitional ramps,” Citizens’ Transition Engineer and Member Di Sarajevo.
Despite existing challenges, seven cities from BiH participate in the European Commission campaign with the aim of raising awareness of sustainable urban mobility.
The European mobility week reminds the importance of healthier and more sustainable movement modes. Bicycles are becoming increasingly represented, while rhomobiles are still waiting for clear rules – the first step towards safer and more efficient traffic, writes N1 BiH.
