The Minister for Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Adnan Šabani, together with his colleagues, held a meeting today with the Director of the Regional Development Agency for the Central BiH Region (REZ), Ismet Sarajlić.
On that occasion, director Sarajlić and project manager Marela Zdenac introduced the minister to the projects that the REZ Agency is working on with the aim of encouraging economic development, improving competitiveness and improving living standards.
The focus of the meeting was the activities of the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of ZDK and the Government of ZDK on improving environmental protection.
– We are particularly pleased to follow the high-quality projects that the Ministry has been implementing in the last two years and that are producing results on the ground. Minister Šabani and the Government recognized the importance of cooperation with international organizations and the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism in order to improve resources in ZDK. Adriatic-Ionian Transnational Cooperation Program 2021–2027. implements the project Promoting solutions for the design of habitats inspired by biomimicry for the protection and restoration of biodiversity can be of great benefit to the Zenica – Doboj canton in view of the establishment of the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Natural Areas – said Ismet Sarajlić, director of the REZ Agency.
Support for a greener and climate-resistant Adriatic-Ionian region, i.e. preservation and protection of the environment, is a project where Minister Šabani and the ZDK Government see a new chance for additional environmental protection and development of tourism potential.
– The “BIOMIMICRY” project deals with the loss of biodiversity and climate risks in the Adriatic-Ionian region. Sustainable landscapes, water management and habitat restoration are the goals of the project, which seeks to find effective and innovative solutions through habitat research in this region that contribute to the protection and restoration of biodiversity. The developed solutions and tools will help local, regional and national authorities to encourage the use of biomimicry-inspired principles in development processes and urban planning. The Zenica-Doboj canton does not miss opportunities for further development, so through the Public Institution we will be able to protect the riches of Tajan, Zvijezda and other natural beauties that abound in this part of our homeland – Minister Adnan Šabani said.
The European Union finances this project with 1.3 million euros.
