Millions of Americans are expected to take to the streets across the country to protest the policies of President Donald Trump, as part of mass demonstrations organized by the “No Kings” movement.
This alliance of more than 300 organizations organized over 2,600 protests in all states, including major cities such as New York, San Francisco, Washington, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta and New Orleans.
A previous rally held on June 14, Trump’s birthday, drew huge crowds as the president staged a military parade in Washington.
The organizers emphasize that they want to send a message that the United States is a country of equals, the rule of law and democracy.
“We will not be silenced,” said Deirdre Schifeling of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Leah Greenberg of the organization Indivisible condemned the deployment of the National Guard to the cities and the persecution of political opponents: “We will not back down in the face of threats.”
The president of the teachers union, Randi Weingarten, said that they are fighting for the future of democracy: “We are not going back.”
The “No Kings” movement is spreading outside the US, with rallies announced in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa, Canada.
