Speaking at an event organized by the magazine “Stern” in Berlin, Merkel called for binding rules for the use of AI and stressed that algorithms operating without control could deprive people of important information, reports Bild.
Merkel particularly criticized the US administration of Donald Trump, pointing out that the US will try to prevent the regulation of digital media and artificial intelligence and that there will be “only one winner” in the global race for dominance in the field of AI, reports Tanjug.
The former German chancellor also warned that the EU is often perceived as a “disruptor” in the US, because America negotiates with individual members, not with the EU as a whole.
Still, she said she remains a fan of American culture, citing blue jeans, Bruce Springsteen and the US West Coast as something she fantasizes about.
