– Twenty-two weeks of military, civilian and police training brought Venezuela to the highest level of comprehensive defense capability we have ever achieved. They prepared us to defend our country, sovereignty and dignity and guarantee a free and sovereign homeland for future generations – said Maduro in a video address.
He reminded that, due to threats from the USA, Venezuela conducted military exercises called “Independence 200” for five months, reports TASS.
Maduro condemned US actions against Venezuela and said that “psychological terror” has not diverted his country even an inch from the path of “building a strong homeland”.
Since the beginning of September, US warplanes have been targeting drug vessels from Venezuela and other Latin American countries.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to start bombing land targets.
The US has significantly increased its military presence in the Caribbean in recent months, citing the fight against drug trafficking as a primary reason.
