The well-known Široki Brijeg captain and club legend, Jure Ivanković, is the new head of the NK Široki Brijeg Football School.
The popular Juka is an example of dedication and humanity on the football field and one of the the most recognizable players in history The Blues from Pecare, from whom every young player can learn something, was announced by NK Široki Brijeg.
He defended the colors of his home club for more than a decade, registering 265 performances in all competitions, and with the club he won two BiH Cup titles. Jure Ivanković said goodbye to active playing precisely in the jersey of NK Široki brijeg at the end of 2017/2018. season.
After the end of his playing career, he remained working as a coach at the Club. He was an assistant Toni Karačić in the first team, and then from August 2021 to April 2022 he independently managed NK Široki Brijeg. In 27 games, he achieved a performance of 10 wins, nine draws and eight losses.
Given that the NK Široki Brijeg Football School is one of the most famous and respected in the region and a strong part of the Club’s identity, placing Ivanković at its head is a confirmation that The school of football is the most important pillar on which we build and want to build our future, according to the club.
It is a great honor and pleasure for me, but also great responsibility that I received the trust of the people at the head of the club to lead the Football School into a new chapter. My desire is to establish high standards of discipline and work in all categories, Ivanković pointed out.
Generations of talented young players have passed through the NK Široki Brijeg Football School, and by placing Ivanković at its head, we want to pay special attention to its further improvement and draw from it fresh strength, enthusiasm and a long-term perspective for the Club.
In cooperation with the coaches and other employees, I want to improve all the segments that are important so that the Football School can be a source of pride for everyone. It is a long-term and demanding process, but I believe in all of us. If we push together in the same direction, I have no doubt that we will reach the set goals, The new head of the NK Široki Brijeg Football School, who is returning to his parent club, is resolutely thinking after a two-year engagement in Hajduk from Split.
Jure Ivanković he became the coach of the Hajduk cadets at the beginning of the 2023/2024 season. In the same season, he was promoted to assistant in the staff of the first team under the leadership Mislav Karoglanand independently led Hajduk’s first team in the last seven games of the season.
At the end of that season, Ivanković returned to the Academy of HNK Hajduk “Luka Kaliterna”, took charge of the cadets again, and then at the beginning of the current season, also the juniors.
