Minister of Health of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, dr. Aida Salčinović, together with the acting director of the ZDK Health Insurance Institute, Ahmed Kasap, the deputy chairman of the ZDK Assembly, Goran Bulajić, and the ZDK Minister of Veteran Affairs, Adnan Sirovic, visited the Institute of Occupational Medicine and Sports Medicine of the ZDK yesterday, where they discussed current issues and plans for further investments and improvement of working conditions.
In 2025, the Ministry of Health of the ZDK allocated significant funds for the improvement of the work of the Institute – 176,000 KM for the purchase of a new X-ray machine, and 228,000 KM through current transfers for financing the health care of athletes and projects in the field of public health activities in occupational medicine. Changes to the program of current transfers are underway, which will provide the Institute with an additional 200,000 KM, thus confirming the clear determination of the ZDK Government to improve working conditions and the quality of services provided.
Minister Salčinović stressed the importance of continuous investment in health institutions that provide services to workers and athletes. She especially emphasized that the Institute should submit data on priority needs for the HSIP project – Improvement of the health system in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the Federal Ministry of Health is implementing in cooperation with the World Bank, with the aim of ensuring modern equipment and work standards.
The director of ZZO ZDK, Ahmed Kasap, expressed a clear commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Institute through concrete and measurable steps. He pointed out that certain activities have already been initiated, and that the key measures will be implemented during 2026.
During the constructive discussions, the priorities for action were defined: expanding the services provided by the Institute, speeding up the recovery of insured persons on sick leave, and the development and implementation of solutions that will contribute to reducing the waiting list in the canton through better utilization of the Institute’s capacities.
The deputy chairman of the ZDK Assembly, Goran Bulajić, expressed his satisfaction with the current measures of the ZDK Ministry of Health and the ZDK Health Insurance Institute. It was pointed out that there is a clear and strong political will to finally systematize and improve the operations of the Institute through concrete, sustainable and strategically oriented steps.
Bulajić called on the Institute’s management to submit a precise overview of needs and priority projects that would contribute to capacity building, modernization of work and better positioning on the health services market. He particularly emphasized the importance of capital investments in modern medical equipment as a key prerequisite for raising the quality of work, expanding the scope of services and ensuring the Institute’s long-term sustainability.
This visit confirms the institutions’ joint commitment to strengthening the functionality of the Institute for Occupational Medicine and Sports Medicine, with the aim of improving the availability, efficiency and quality of health services for workers, athletes and all insured persons of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
