Italian football alliance and series A has achieved an agreement according to which footballers wages will be reduced by 25 percent if their teams drop out in Serie B.
The five-year agreement was published on Tuesday. Pay reduction aims to mitigate financial pressure on the clubs that turn out from Serie A and shall apply to all contracts signed after 2. September 2025. – end of the transitional deadline.
The new system automatically reduces salaries unless otherwise stated in the player’s contract. Existing contracts will remain subject to previously agreed conditions.
If the team achieves the return back to Serie A, the affected salaries will return to its original value. The collective agreement also introduces the minimum wage structure based on the age of player, which cannot be reduced even after the relegation, Hina reports.
