Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas – have agreed to a 42-day ceasefire brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the US, and the agreement will take effect on January 19, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said.
– In the first phase, 33 Israeli hostages, including civilians, will be released, and in return, Palestinian prisoners will be released from Israeli prisons and detention centers as part of the agreement – said El Thani at a press conference.
He added that Qatar, Egypt and the US will form a joint team in Cairo to oversee the ceasefire in Gaza.
The spokesman of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al Ansari, said that the negotiation process on the details of the implementation of the agreement will begin on Thursday morning.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog called on the Israeli government to accept the announced agreement on the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages, calling it an important and necessary step
