Israeli occupation forces on Wednesday issued orders to demolish nine houses, some of which are inhabited, while others are still under construction, in the village of Artas, south of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, Anadolia reported.
According to local sources, an Israeli military unit entered the Jabal Abu Zeid area and placed demolition orders on the houses.
The orders require the owners to remove the houses themselves, with the warning that the army will carry out the demolition at the owner’s expense if they do not comply. Residents were given 30 days to submit documents proving ownership of the land.
According to local residents, four of the houses under threat are inhabited and belong to brothers Mohammed and Ali Ibrahim Shaheen, and Fadi Emad Asaad, while the owner of the fourth house has not yet been identified.
The other houses are in various stages of construction and belong to Hussein Mohammed Ismail, Hussam Khaled Ismail, Waleed Ismail Ahmad Ismail, Suleiman Mohammed Saad and Khaled Ismail Ahmad Ismail.
Israeli authorities continue to issue demolition orders for residential and commercial buildings throughout the occupied West Bank and inside Israel, claiming they were built without permits. Palestinians, on the other hand, say Israel is systematically restricting the issuance of building permits as part of a policy aimed at pressuring them to leave their lands.
