“All residents living south of the Zahrani River should head north to safety,” a military spokesman announced in Arabic at Platform X. The Zahrani River flows approximately 40 kilometers north of the Lebanon-Israeli border.
In a video message, the spokesman said people should stay away from Hezbollah infrastructure. The Israeli army is preparing to launch an operation against the militant group “with extreme force”, it said.
A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was declared in April and has since been extended twice. Despite the agreement, the exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah continues almost daily.
Hezbollah is not a party to the ceasefire and has refused to enter into negotiations with Israel.
Intense Israeli airstrikes were reported again on Wednesday in southern and eastern Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the attacks hit areas around the southern city of Nabatia and surrounding regions, while state news agency NNA reported attacks in the east of the country, Hina reported.
The Israeli army also announced drone attacks in northern Israel, which set off warning sirens in several areas. The military also said it had identified “suspicious aerial objects” near Israeli troops in southern Lebanon, one of which was intercepted.
