However, the peace agreement will not be signed tomorrow, said the spokesman of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Esmaeil Baghaei, according to Iranian state media, said that Iran must be careful with the announcement of the signing date because of the hesitation of the United States. His comments come amid growing speculation that an initial deal could be struck this weekend, reportedly because of Donald Trump’s desire to secure it before heading to the G7 summit on Monday.

This announcement contradicts the earlier statement of the Pakistani Prime Minister, who said today that the agreement is “closer than ever” and that “it is likely to be concluded in the next 24 hours”, reports Sky News.

While the date of signing a possible agreement with the US remains unclear, Iran met with its key allies in Tehran. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi held talks with Russian and Chinese officials, the semi-official ISNA news agency reported.

“We exchanged views and discussed the latest developments regarding the draft MoU in Islamabad,” Gharibadi’s statement read.

“The strategic partnership of Iran, China and Russia, as well as the coordination and cooperation of the three countries, will firmly continue.”

On the other hand, Pakistan still insists that the signing will take place tomorrow. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with his Saudi counterpart, and Pakistan’s foreign ministry said that the officials of the mediating countries welcomed the US-Iran negotiations, which are in the final stages.

The ministry also reiterated that the electronic signing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday. The announcement comes despite Tehran’s claim that the signing could happen in the coming days, but not tomorrow.
