Josep Martinez (27), Inter’s reserve goalkeeper, ran over and killed an elderly man in a wheelchair.
The tragedy happened this morning at Fenegrou, near Inter’s Appiano Gentile training center. Martinez was run over by a car 81-year-old man in an electric wheelchair, described by passers-by as a “four-wheeled scooter”.
Witnesses claim that the collision was violent and that despite the immediate intervention of the emergency services: helicopter ambulance, ambulance and police – nothing could be done for the elderly man and that died at the scene. According to unofficial information, the man in the wheelchair may have been feeling unwell and left the bike path to cross the road in the opposite direction of traffic.

Martinez, who was driving a car at the time, was unable to avoid the collision. He immediately stopped to provide first aid and cooperated with the authorities, according to Italian media. Martinez is not injured, but is in a state of shock. The police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and possible responsibility.
In mourning, Inter is canceled the press conference coach Chivu, which was scheduled for 2 p.m. The street where the accident happened has one lane in each direction, without a dividing strip, and on the side there are two smaller lanes separated by a continuous yellow line.
Martinez has defended twice for Inter in Serie A this season, and has also made one appearance for the Spanish national team. He grew up in Barcelona, and defended in Las Palmas, Leipzig, Genoa. Since the summer of last year, he has been a member of Inter, who paid him 14 million euros.
