Instant payments in Bosnia and Herzegovina officially start on July 20, 2026, which means that the domestic payment traffic enters a new phase of digitization and faster execution of transactions.
The new system will enable the transfer of money between the accounts of individuals and legal entities in just a few seconds, regardless of whether it is a weekday, weekend or holiday. This means that users will no longer have to wait for order processing within the current banking hours.
The previous payment system in Bosnia and Herzegovina had time limits, so orders were usually processed during the working day, while weekends and holidays extended the waiting time for payment. With the introduction of instant payments, money will be available almost immediately after sending.
Citizens, businesses and institutions that perform daily payment transactions will benefit the most from the new system. Payments will be possible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which will especially facilitate urgent payments, business with suppliers and faster disposal of money.
Instant payments in BiH are aligned with European standards and follow solutions that are already used in the countries of the European Union. It is expected that such a system will open space for additional digital services in the coming period, including the possibility of developing cross-border instant payments.
For the economy, the new system means faster fulfillment of obligations, better cash flow and greater security in business. Companies will be able to receive payments faster, pay partners and plan business activities without the delays caused by non-working days or limited processing time.
The introduction of the system will begin on July 20, and its full implementation will take place in phases until July 31, 2027. With this, Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking an important step towards more modern, faster and more efficient digital payment transactions, he writes RTV Slon.
