International non-profit organization FairSquare has filed a complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee, alleging that FIFA president Gianni Infantino “was not politically neutral during the group draw for the 2026 World Cup in Washington.”
They cited Infantino’s praise of US President Donald Trump, who was presented with the first FIFA Peace Prize, as the main reason.
FairSquare requests that an independent FIFA committee investigate the entire process of drawing groups for the next World Cup, held on December 6, the agencies report.
FIFA, which will organize the World Cup in 2026 in the United States of America (USA), Mexico and Canada, has traditionally emphasized neutrality in political and religious matters.
Disciplinary action by the Ethics Committee may include a warning, a fine, compliance training and even a ban from participating in football-related activities.
