Importing cars from Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina is becoming more and more popular, but many are not fully aware of all the costs that accompany this procedure.
At first glance, the price of a vehicle in Germany may seem attractive, but after adding all the costs – customs, VAT, transportation, registration and other services – the total cost can rise significantly, Crna Chronicle writes.
One of the basic costs that every car importer from Germany will have to pay is the customs duty. A customs duty of around 16% is applied to vehicles imported into BiH from an EU country, such as Germany. This means that 16% will need to be added to the base price of the car to get the total customs value.
In addition, VAT of 17% is payable, which is calculated on the total customs value of the vehicle, including customs duty.
One of the unavoidable expenses is the transportation of cars from Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The price of transportation depends on several factors, but the minimum price of transporting a car from Germany to Bosnia and Herzegovina is about 1,300 KM. Transportation may be more expensive depending on specific conditions, type of vehicle, or distance, but this price represents the basis for most cases.
In addition to customs, VAT and transportation, importers also face additional costs. This includes various administrative services, such as costs for ownership certificates, customs brokerage, and preparation of documentation for vehicle registration in BiH. These costs usually amount to between 300 and 400 KM, depending on the specifics of the import.
One of the most important steps in the process of importing a car is registration in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This cost depends on the type of vehicle, but for a vehicle that cost 12,000 KM in Germany, the entire registration process, including technical inspection, insurance and all administrative fees, can amount to an additional 2,000 to 3,000 KM. So, in the end, a vehicle that cost 12,000 KM in Germany, considering all the additional costs, can cost around 20,000 KM, or even more, in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
When all is said and done, importing a car from Germany, although advantageous at first glance, involves a significant number of additional costs that can significantly increase the total cost of the vehicle.
