The column stretches from the settlement of Vydrino to the town of Kultuk, and many passengers claim that they cannot leave for more than nine hours. Families with children are among those stuck. Many spent the night in their cars, worrying about how to keep the heat on as their fuel reserves ran out.
According to the first information, the stoppage was caused by ice and heavy goods vehicles that blocked the passage. Local residents say that such situations are repeated regularly, because the combination of wet snow, ice and trucks turns this section of the R-258 into an ice trap from which it is difficult to get out.
Passengers point out that they have nowhere to go, as it is a question of remote areas with few amenities, while traffic services are slow to solve the blockade due to low temperatures and slippery pavement. People fear that someone might die from the cold if traffic doesn’t start soon.
