After it seemed that the reception of the handball players would fail, there was a big twist. The government has taken over the organization and confirmed that from 18:00 on Ban Jelačić Square, they will provide a reception for handball players.
According to their wishes, they will also perform Marko Perković Thompson. On that occasion, the Croatian Handball Association sent a press release, which we are transmitting in its entirety.
Respected representatives of the media, Croatian handball players, professional staff and the Croatian Handball Association express their great satisfaction and gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Croatia for the welcoming the handball players on Ban Josip Jelačić Square – in the way the players, the coaching staff and the Croatian Handball Association want it.
At the same time, we would like to mention that, as athletes, we want this celebration to be on the Square celebration of handball and Croatian sports, that is, great success on the occasion of winning the bronze medal at the European Championship. As the Croatian handball team and HRS, we represent the citizens of the Republic of Croatia and we do not want any divisions and we do not want to get involved in politics in any way.
Therefore, we ask that no one else over our successes does not interfere in any political confrontations. Our players are overjoyed to be able to play for Croatia because they love their country and the holy jersey and the only reason is love for their homeland.
We are not a political group but only athletes who represent their homeland in the world and we are very happy when we cheer up the Croatian people who support all our successes and results.
At the same time, on behalf of all the players, the coaching staff and the handball association, we ask and appeal to all those who will come tonight to celebrate the bronze medal with our players to the entire celebration passed with dignity and without any inappropriate actions because that is the only way to show love for the Croatian jersey, the national team and the homeland.
Please support the players in a dignified manneras it has been done many times before, and let’s all show together that love for the homeland is above all. Sports greeting!
