As of November 30, 2024, the number of unemployed persons in the records of employment institutes and services amounted to 321,912, which represents a decrease of 1,231 persons (0.38 percent) compared to the previous month, it says Klix.
Compared to the same period last year, unemployment decreased by a significant 22,754 persons, or 6.60 percent.
Structure of persons seeking employment, as of 30.11.2024. year is as follows:
- Unskilled workers: 94,181 or 29.26 percent, of which 37,489 (28.59 percent) men and 56,692 (29.71 percent) women;
- Semi-skilled workers – Lower vocational education: 4,488 or 1.39 percent, of which 2,102 (1.60 percent) men and 2,386 (1.25 percent) women;
- Skilled workers: 100,470 or 31.21 percent, of which 51,002 (38.90 percent) men and 49,486 (25.93 percent) women;
- Highly qualified workers: 712 or 0.22 percent, of which 547 (0.42 percent) men and 165 (0.09 percent) women;
- Secondary education: 91,577 or 28.45 percent, of which 30,994 (23.64 percent) men and 60,583 (31.75 percent) women;
- Higher professional education: 4,961 or 1.54 percent, of which 1,669 (1.27 percent) men and 3,292 (1.73 percent) women;
- Higher vocational education: 25,523 or 7.93 percent, of which 7,322 (5.58 percent) are men and 18,201 (9.54 percent) are women.

Women lead the way in unemployment
Of the total number of registered unemployed persons in November 2024, there were 11,028 newly registered persons looking for work, of which 5,806 were women. The number of persons deleted from the records of employment institutes and services is 12,331. The number of women deleted from the register is 6,433. Of the total number deleted from the records of institutes and employment services, 7,578 or 61.45 percent were employed, of which 4,183 were women or 55.20 percent.
In November 2024, employers reported 1,745 needs for hiring new workers to employment institutes and services in Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which 724 were women, while the registered number of persons whose employment relationship ended in the reporting period was 8,177. The registered number of women whose employment relationship ended in the reporting period was 4,234 or 51.78 percent.
According to the data of the BiH Statistics Agency, in October 2024, the number of employed persons in BiH was 858,598, of which 391,572 were women. Compared to September 2024, the number of employed persons did not change, and the number of employed women increased by 0.2 percent.
Challenges for youth
According to the results of the Labor Force Survey for the third quarter of 2024, the labor force (economically active population) in BiH was 1,427,000 people, while the number of inactive people was 1,449,000.
There were 1,254,000 employed and 173,000 unemployed persons in the labor force. The survey unemployment rate is significantly lower than the registered unemployment rate at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the third quarter of 2024, which was 12.2 percent.
The number of employed persons in the third quarter of 2024 increased by 2.5 percent compared to the second quarter of 2024, while the number of unemployed persons decreased by 7.5 percent.
The unemployment rate in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 3rd quarter of 2024 was 12.2 percent and is lower than the 2nd quarter of 2024 (13.3 percent) by 1.1 percentage points. The survey employment rate in the third quarter of 2024 was 43.6 percent and is higher than the second quarter of 2024 (42.5 percent) by 1.1 percentage points.
The youth unemployment rate (15-24 years) in BiH in the third quarter of 2024 was 31.4 percent and is higher than in the second quarter of 2024 (30.4 percent) by 1.0 percentage points.
