Restoring the connection of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to the external power grid will take about seven days, said the General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi.
“It will take some time to reconnect the plant to the power grid, and the repairs are expected to take about seven days. Now there is finally light at the end of the tunnel,” Grossi said.
He added that the start of repairs marks a significant step forward in determined efforts to restore external power to Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, which for the past few weeks has been forced to rely on diesel generators for electricity in emergency situations, which he said is clearly not sustainable.
Although the power plant itself produces electricity, it needs an external power supply for the safe operation of the reactor cooling system.
