The coach of the basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dario Gjergja, reflected on the defeat against Turkey in his debut performance on the bench of the national team. Bosnia and Herzegovina was defeated in Istanbul with a score of 93:71, although it was an equal opponent for most of the match.
According to the selectors, the decision was made in the fourth quarter, in which the lack of quality and width in the rotation was felt. His message to FIBA attracted the most attention, especially due to the fact that national teams cannot count on players from the NBA and Euroleague in the qualifiers. Gjergja called that system “massacre”.
– I am an employee of the alliance, and the alliance will do its best to make them as strong as possible. But the question is who do we want to watch. Do we want to watch the best players of each national team? With or the NBA, even if we have players from the Euroleague. This is a massacre. I want to know when the Ottomans and others arrived from Monaco last night. Maybe three or four after midnight, and then they have to play today. And then we wonder why so many injuries. Every player who wants to play for the country deserves to play for the country. That’s my position on that – said the selector.
Speaking about the match itself, Gjergja pointed out that BiH played excellently for more than 30 minutes.
– First of all, congratulations to Turkey on the victory. They continued to dominate in rebounding. I think we played excellent basketball for 32 minutes. The fourth quarter, we made several open shots there. They scored, because they may have had reinforcements and a greater advantage from the bench. We have two and a half normal training sessions behind us. I am very proud of this group and I hope that it will be better from tomorrow and we will do everything to get the best out of it – he added.
The BiH national team does not have much time to rest, because already on Sunday from 20:00 in the “Mirza Delibašić” hall in Sarajevo, it welcomes the selection of Serbia in the second round of qualifications for the World Championship.
