Germany is expecting a very warm weekend. Especially in the Rhine-Main region, according to meteorologist Jan Schenk, it could be up to 35 degrees Celsius locally. The real summer heat is spreading across the country.
– It is hot in Germany – especially in the west and south, temperatures up to 33 degrees have already been measured – said meteorologist Jan Schenk for FOCUS online. According to him, the upcoming weekend could be particularly interesting: “Then it could be even warmer.”
The biggest rise in temperatures is expected in the Rhine-Main region. “Right now we are recording 33 degrees. If we look more closely, it could reach up to 35 degrees locally,” said Schenk.
This brings Germany closer to the real summer heat and one of the hottest days of the month. According to current forecasts, the most pronounced warming is expected in the west of the country.
Temporary mid-week refresh
Before the arrival of a new heat wave, a short refreshment is expected in the middle of the week. Especially in the north, temperatures will drop significantly due to the penetration of colder air masses.
– Colder air is coming directly from the north. Temperatures there drop to ten degrees. It’s not dramatic, but it’s noticeably fresher – explained Schenk. The south-west of the country will initially remain mostly spared from this drop and will maintain higher temperatures. Already from Friday, temperatures will rise again across the country, before the heat wave fully develops on Saturday and especially on Sunday.
After a warm weekend, a new weather change is expected. According to Schenk, a gradual cooling is coming in the coming week.
There is also an increased chance of rain, which would bring relief to many areas. However, the meteorologist notes that this refreshment could be short-lived.
View of Europe: Germany fares better
While up to 35 degrees is expected in Germany, southern Europe faces much more extreme temperatures. In southern Spain, values above 40 degrees are forecast.
– 40 degrees in the south of Spain – I wouldn’t want that now in May – said Schenk. In comparison, the weather in Germany is summer, but still far from extreme values.
Summer atmosphere
For everyone who spends their holidays at home, the forecast brings a summer atmosphere. Lots of sunshine, high temperatures and a local peak of up to 35 degrees on Sunday bring a real summer atmosphere.
However, with high temperatures, caution is recommended – especially during the hottest days: enough fluids, protection from the sun and staying in the shade are important for maintaining health. Especially on Sunday, there may be a pronounced heat load locally.
