The 1st High School League of Sarajevo Canton begins in basketball.
This ambitious project, sponsored by the KS Ministry of Culture and Sports, the KS Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo, represents a new step towards the additional revival of school sports and as such creates a platform where young athletes have the opportunity to prove themselves and compete with each other.
Lately, sports events for high school students have become a rarity. Many students do not even have the opportunity to feel the charm of the competition, to wear their school’s colors and to be, even for one day, the heroes of their class and their generation. That is exactly why the High School Basketball League is a promising movement. A movement that wants to revive the spirit of competition, camaraderie and teamwork, but also to show that Sarajevo has the strength and will to return sport to where it belongs – among young people.
– Our vision is simple. We want basketball to once again be a magnet that gathers the community, parents, schools and institutions around one idea: a healthy mind in a healthy body – say the project organizers from ACAR Events.
The league is conceived as a permanent initiative that will expand, develop and improve every year, with the goal of becoming the most popular high school event in the city and the ambition to one day reach the status that similar competitions enjoy in Western countries.
The strength of this project is confirmed by the fact that the key institutions of Sarajevo Canton stood behind it. The support of the two cantonal ministries and the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo is a clear message that the system, when it recognizes the right idea, can act uniquely and decisively.
