French police said on Saturday they had seized more than two tons of cocaine with an estimated value of 130 million euros in the northwestern port of Avr.
In the action, the truck driver and port worker who participated in the smuggling were arrested. They face up to 30 years in prison, reports Radio Free Europe.
The port of Avr was for years one of the most important gateways for cocaine smuggling in France.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau congratulated the police on their success, while the authorities say it is a record seizure of cocaine.
– Day by day we intensify our war against drug trafficking, thanks to the exceptional work of our agents – the Minister of Internal Affairs stated on the X network.
France and other European governments are trying to crack down on drug-trafficking gangs and deadly clashes between gangs.
