Students from Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved notable results at the prestigious international scientific event International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO), which was held in London from June 14 to 20, 2026.
This international Olympiad gathered young scientists, innovators and researchers from numerous countries around the world, giving them the opportunity to present their projects, exchange experiences and compete in various fields of science and technology.
Among hundreds of participants from different countries, the students of Richmond Park International High School Tuzla, Esma Sinanović and Nejla Kusturica, won a gold medal for the “rePETra” project, in which they investigated the influence of different types of coatings and UV blockers on the transmission of UV radiation and visible light.
Esma Zilić, a student of Richmond Park International Elementary School Tuzla, also achieved great success by winning a silver medal for the short film “A Sweet Trap”, which points out the harmful consequences of excessive use of sugar and promotes healthier lifestyle habits among young people.
The bronze medal in the Short Film category was won by Isra Hasanović, a student of Richmond Park International High School Tuzla, once again confirming the creativity and quality of the work of students from Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage.
Students from JU Gymnasium “Dr. Mustafa Kamarić” Gračanica, Ema Fazlić and Lejla Mehurić won a silver medal in the Energy category with the project “Intellistep”, which uses the power of four renewable energy sources, solar, wind energy, rain and temperature differences to charge powerful batteries for transport control.
Ahmed Gušo, a student of the “Hasib Hadžović” from Goražde, won a bronze medal with the “Nautilus” project in the Environment Science category.
The International Greenwich Olympiad is not only a competition in science, research and innovation. During the six days of the Olympiad, participants from Asia, Europe, Africa, North and South America and Australia had the opportunity to exchange knowledge, represent their cultures, learn about the traditions of other nations and build friendships that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.
A particularly significant and unforgettable moment for the Bosnian delegation was the reception at the Palace of Westminster, at the invitation of the distinguished baroness Arminka Helić, who recognized the enthusiasm, knowledge and commitment of young innovators.
