The US tech giant said in a post on its website that it will charge a fee for image or video ads displayed on its platforms, Reuters reported.
This includes WhatsApp click-to-message campaigns and marketing messages along with ads.
This decision will apply from July 1 and will also cover other government levies.

Meta has listed six countries where the fees will apply, ranging from two percent in the United Kingdom, over three percent in France, Italy and Spain, to five percent in Austria and Turkey.
Digital taxes are levied as a percentage of the revenue that large technology companies generate in certain countries.
This caused criticism from Washington, which sees the aforementioned taxes as discrimination against American companies.
