Three people were injured in an explosion at the Energetika Nova Željezara Zenica plant. One worker suffered serious injuries and was transported to the KCUS.
In the explosion that took place today around 16:25 at the Energetika Nova Željezara Zenica plant, three people were injured, one of whom received serious injuries, it was confirmed by the Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
According to the spokeswoman of the Police Administration of the MUP ZDK Lejla Ekinović, minor injuries were sustained by MM from Prijedor and NA from Zenica, while MK from Begovo Han near Žepč (born in 1967) was seriously injured and was transported to the University Clinical Center Sarajevo for treatment.
“An investigation team was formed, which was supposed to carry out an investigation under the supervision of the ZDK cantonal prosecutor on duty, but for security reasons the investigation was not carried out tonight. The accident site has been secured and tomorrow it will be assessed whether the conditions for the investigation have been met”, said Ekinović.
She added that the Zenica Center Police Station received a report about the explosion from the Zenica Emergency Medical Service.
The president of the Zenica-Doboj canton’s metalworkers’ union, Kenan Mujkanović, told Fena that the worker of Nova Željezara Zenica, Mirnes Kamerić, was seriously injured.
“Kamerić suffered severe burns during the transfer of gas at the Energetika plant. The gas ignited and exploded,” said Mujkanović.
On the other hand, the spokeswoman for Nova Željezara Zenica, Alena Kahrimanović, stated that the explosion and fire occurred during the transfer of liquid oxygen from the tank of the company Messer, stressing that it was a matter of regular business activities. According to the information available to the company, two workers were injured.
“Firefighters, the police and the ambulance immediately went to the scene. The fire was localized, and more will be known about the causes after the completion of the investigation. Two workers were injured. One employee of Messer received minor injuries, while an employee of NŽZ received more serious injuries and was transferred to KCUS for further treatment after assistance. Competent services are taking all necessary measures to determine the circumstances of the incident,” Kahrimanović pointed out.
After the safety conditions are met, the competent authorities will conduct an investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of the explosion.
