As part of the first activity of the newly established Center for Strategic Studies (CESS) and the Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo, on Monday, 7. July, significant cooperation with the Municipality of Travnik, one of the key units of local self-government in Central Bosnia Canton.
Experts in the field of security, defense, international relations and other related disciplines have gathered at the meeting. Current security challenges, obstacles in Bosnia and Herzegovina to integrate into NATO, as a crucial framework for long-term stability and security of the state – and the possibilities for the possible proposals for their overcoming are discussed.
On that occasion, participants identified the main obstacles in the NATO integration process and formulated specific recommendations for the competent state institutions. The goal is for Bosnia and Herzegovina to prepare for NATO membership to the next summit in Turkey.
“NATO’s topic practically disappeared from our social discourse We have forgotten NATO, and we have woke up with the country and do our contribution to its full membership in Turkey,” said CESTS leader prof. dr. Kenan Dautović for Federal Television.
Dean of the Faculty of Political Science UNSA, prof. dr. Sead Turčalo, pointed out the importance of opening as many topics as possible to change the political dynamics in the country:
“If we accept all the framework – that something is impossible, that we cannot become a member of NATO, that Euro-Atlantic integration are not realistic – then we accepted to watch the earth passing through the fingers,” Turchal said.
He added that the goal of these activities is to provide local communities a concrete contribution to capacity building, analysis and security issues of strategic importance for the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced recently that NATO Summit will be held in Ankara in July next year, where Turkey will be greeted by the leaders of NATO member states.
