The Frenchman used the opportunity to send a message to the players, but also to talk about the changes that, in his opinion, destroy the spirit of the former Juventus.
“Thank you for everything, mister. But this message is also for the players, because when your coach gets fired, it means you didn’t do your job well on the field. It happened to me only once in my career and I felt like garbage,” said Evra, recalling the departure of David Moyes from Manchester United in 2014, reports Index.hr.
Evra added that the situation at Juventus reminds him of the crisis in Manchester at the time, when, as he says, “many players wanted Moyes’ dismissal, but we turned the situation around and won the title”.
In his video, Evra fiercely called out today’s players: “I can’t be rude to them, but it’s a new generation, a soft one – the TikTok generation. They’re no longer footballers, but brands, rappers, influencers. They have too many distractions. We just ate, slept and played football. Today there’s none of that.”
Evra spoke nostalgically about the changes within Juventus since Andrea Agnelli left: “The club has completely changed, they have lost their true values. When I came, president Agnelli was always with us, with Pavel (Nedved), Marotta and Paratici. Now that’s gone.”
He added that playing for Juventus requires sacrifice: “When you play for Juventus, you have to sacrifice your family. It’s true. You have to love that club and give everything. If you don’t want to be there – leave. I don’t know what happened, everyone has softened, even the fans who now live on social media.”
Evra pointed out that his favorite title is the one with Massimiliano Allegri in 2014/15: “That year we were 13th in the table, lost to Sassuolo and had a meeting in the dressing room. Many wanted Allegri to leave. I said: ‘You don’t have a damn’. We turned the season around and won the title. That’s Juve.”
In the end, he addressed the fans: “I love you fans. I hope to return to Turin soon, but for now I have another life and I don’t plan to return to football. I just want the players to feel again what it means to wear the Juventus shirt.”
