Although they meet all the requirements, a certain number of insured persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina wait for their first pension for several months. It is mainly about those who spent part of their working experience abroad.
Due to the above, the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the Republic of Srpska invited all insured persons who, during 2025, will fulfill the conditions for acquiring the right to an old-age pension to contact the office of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, according to their place of residence, in order to complete the documentation and data essential for the procedure of resolving the right to pension, it says Večernji list.
Prepare the necessary
– Insured persons are invited to provide the Institute with the missing documentation and data in the register of the insured, so that the action of the Institute for MIO is as short as possible and more effective after the submission of the insured’s request. Insured persons are recommended to bring available documentation when coming to the office of the Institute, such as work books or their copies, proof of insurance length of service with increased duration (beneficial length of service), confirmation of length of service from other countries, if previously obtained, and other evidence of length of service if the insured has them – they stated from this Institute.
They especially appeal to insured persons who have completed their insurance period outside the Republic of Srpska, i.e. in other states and FBiH, to respond to the invitation of the Institute for MIO and to submit a request for confirmation of seniority from abroad through the Institute before submitting the application for pension if they have not done so so far.
Confirmation of seniority is a document without which a final decision on the exercise of rights cannot be made, whereby certain countries, due to complicated procedures, are required and waited for a long period of several months, even years, while the Institute for MIA of the Republic of Srpska does not can significantly influence, but can timely claim or urge that the confirmation of seniority be obtained in the shortest possible time. This significantly shortens the decision-making process regarding the right to a pension.
– By the insured’s response to the invitation of the Institute for completing documentation and arranging data from the register, the conditions are met for the branches of the Institute for MIO, as first-instance decision-making bodies on the right, to issue decisions on the exercise of the right within a maximum short period of 7 to 15 days, which is significantly shorter from the deadline prescribed by law, while without obtaining a certificate of seniority from abroad or the FBiH, it is not possible to approach the resolution of such requests until the documentation and that important document are completed.
How to get confirmation in FBiH
The Federal Institute for MIA notes that the procedure for confirming seniority is initiated at the request of the insured, which is submitted to the competent office of the Federal Institute for MIA or by mail. Along with the request for confirmation of seniority, it is necessary to submit all evidence of seniority achieved abroad that the insured has, e.g. a copy of the work book.
– It is important to note that the procedure for confirmation of seniority is initiated only for insurance holders from countries with which BiH has signed/accepted an agreement/agreement on social insurance – concluded from this Institute.
Namely, to an insured person who, in addition to pensionable service completed in BiH, has insurance service completed abroad, and in question is the country with which BiH has concluded/assumed an agreement/contract on social insurance, provided that without such service, he does not meet the conditions for exercising the right to pension, the proportional pension/proportional part of the pension is recognized and determined.
