According to research and available data, every third family in Bosnia and Herzegovina has some kind of weapon in their home. More than 90 percent of crimes in our country are committed with illegal weapons.
Specifically, between 750 and 800 thousand pieces of illegal weapons circulate through black channels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to research conducted by foreign and domestic agencies.
In the past year, according to data from the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, slightly less than four thousand weapons and weapon parts were collected and destroyed. We are talking about confiscated and voluntarily surrendered weapons. For this year, the data is not yet available, he says FTV.
– We don’t have any adequate indicators and what we have is mostly information from the media when illegal weapons are found during certain actions that are not directly related to illegal weapons – says security expert Safet Mušić.
Records and statistical data on the possession of weapons and issued licenses are kept by the cantonal ministries of the interior. Consolidated records do not exist at higher levels. It is precisely this fragmentation, experts say, that makes it difficult to carry out actions at the state level.
– The first stage in the creation of such mechanisms is to open investigations into the method of obtaining these illegal weapons.
And the investigation does not go deeper in terms of the method of obtaining, the method of obtaining, the method of payment, whether it is about individuals or organized groups – emphasizes Sandi Dizdarević, professor of criminal psychology.
– Illegal weapons are dominant and the acquisition of illegal weapons in Bosnia and Herzegovina is facilitated when we talk about the criminal milieu – adds Dizdarević.
