Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed his country’s unwavering commitment to peace in Gaza, saying it will persist until results are achieved.
Speaking after a cabinet meeting, Erdogan thanked the Turkish people for their continued solidarity with the Palestinians, saying that last week the nearly half a million people who demonstrated in Istanbul showed that Gaza is not alone.
– On January 1, our citizens sent a strong message to the world, showing Turkey’s unwavering support for Palestine – Erdogan said and added: “Just as faith and patience won in Syria after 61 years of Baath oppression and 13 years of massacres, if God gives the sun, justice will break through the darkness of oppression in Palestine as well”.
He added that “an independent, sovereign, territorially integrated State of Palestine will be established based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
Erdogan also called on the international community to support the Palestinians and expressed hope that the new year will bring peace and relief to those suffering in Gaza.
– We are doing everything necessary to open the door that will revive hopes for peace in Gaza. We will continue with it until we get results – said the Turkish president.
He also said that his country has shown a firm commitment to its survival and security.
– The only fate that awaits those who choose terrorism and violence is to be buried with their weapons. I tell you openly, no force can prevent it – Erdogan said and added: “We do not agree to the disintegration of Syria and the destruction of its unitary structure. If we see a risk in this regard, we will quickly take the necessary steps.”
He added that Ankara’s investments in the defense industry are not aimed at preparing for war, but at preserving and defending peace, independence, future and sovereignty.
