Economists warn: “Possible increase in fuel prices in BiH”

The increase in the price of a barrel of Brent oil exceeded 85 dollars (145 KM) today, thus confirming the trend and estimates that the retail prices of derivatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina will certainly increase in the coming days.

The new complication of the crisis in the Middle East and the fear of inflation forced the stock markets to continue the trend that started about 20 days ago.

A new increase in fuel prices is certain in Bosnia and Herzegovina after prices fell by one mark in the last month and a half.

Energy experts believe that the real growth could be between 5 and 7 pfennigs per liter, which still does not mean a new jump over the psychological limit of three marks per liter.

“At the moment, the prices are below 3 KM, it can happen at certain gas stations and over 3 KM, but this price of 2.70 to 2.90 is more realistic,” said Almir Bečarević, energy expert.

The question that arises when looking at the movement of global oil and fuel prices at duty-free pumps during the year is for what reason the price increase is followed by the distributors, while the reduction in prices is much slower.

The cause, experts say, is transportation costs and refinery processing costs, which are rising at the moment. Preventing an unrealistic increase in fuel prices is the task of the inspection.

The situation, they assure, is more stable than in March, when traders were fined a total of 860,000 marks.

“The market inspection continues with continuous monitoring of the formation of fuel prices and traders are obliged to adhere to the margins prescribed by the RS Government decision in order to protect the living standards of citizens,” said Dušanka Nikolić, spokeswoman for the RS Entity Inspectorate.

The government recently extended the deadline for subsidizing 10 pence per liter of fuel until mid-August. The measure is applied by 45 different distributors in this entity.

In the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the margin limit is applied. Constant changes in fuel prices have a negative impact on business operations. Testing the adaptability of the economy is becoming more common.

“Surely, they always leave a certain part of the reserve for possible price increases in their planning, hence the famous question that when energy prices fall, all those products whose prices are tied to the price of energy do not automatically become cheaper”, said Saša Grbovac from the Association of Economists SWOT.

The current exchange of military strikes between Iran and the US military and announcements about the complete closure or charging of the passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz do not support hopes that fuel prices could soon stagnate or fall, he writes. BHRT.
