Džumhur had a difficult task against the young Canadian, the second seed of the tournament and currently the 13th tennis player in the world, who was also sixth on the ATP list in the past. However, our tennis player offered strong resistance from the first game.
The first set was extremely even. Auger-Aliassime created more pressure in the seventh game, but Dzumhur managed to save his serve and lead 4:3. In the end, the set was decided by a tie-break, where the Canadian did better and took a 1:0 lead in the sets.
In the second set, Dzumhur showed a better game, made two breaks and put pressure on the opponent. After taking the serve at 4:3, he preserved his advantage and equalized the result of the sets with 6:4.
The third set was a real drama. Both tennis players guarded their serves, and Dzumhur faced several difficulties that he successfully overcame.
With the result 5:4 for the Canadian, our tennis player saved two match points and one on the opponent’s advantage, bringing the set to 5:5.
Everything was decided by the final tie-break, in which Auger-Aliassime used the fourth match-point to advance to the quarterfinals. The match lasted an impressive two hours and 55 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, Auger-Aliassime will play against the better of Botic van de Zandschlupp and Eliot Spizziri.
