Before visiting Koper in the Slovenian football championship, Maribor coach Feđa Dudić spoke about many interesting topics.
At the press conference that lasted more than 20 minutes before the match with Koper, the Sarajevo-born strategist gave very interesting thoughts, already with an introductory question about how the days went during the representative break and the forecast for the match with Koper.
“We used those 14 days to get the boys used to work, to the way I want to work. It’s definitely something new for them, slightly more intense training, which they’re not used to, but they accepted it all with ease. I think that every day, every week everything will get better and better. We tried to work a little on their physical fitness. I said before that I’m not satisfied with how much the team runs,” said Dudić at the beginning.
He then explained everything further and revealed some worrying information.
“When we look at the games that Maribor won and lost, we come to the realization that they won in games where the individual quality of the players was much higher on the Maribor side. This is because we have good, quality players in Maribor. But the more difficult games, if we look at the ones against Celje, Olimpija, Koper and Bravo, i.e. the clubs that are in the upper part of the league table next to us, in those games Maribor won two of the possible 15 points. One against Bravo and one against Koper. It’s not a coincidence!”, he asserted and added:
“Because these teams are of high quality. Even in the games against us, they ran more, they wanted more. When you get the same quality or even a little better quality than yours, and you are not at the right level of running, what happens happens”.
He said that now they have the first game against the mentioned four, where they will try to change these statistics and show different tendencies and ambitions and justify the name of the club they represent.
“We focused more on ourselves during these 14 days. We worked on things we weren’t satisfied with, which we wanted to fix. I must really say that the discipline and attitude in training were phenomenal. When I came to Maribor and listened to all the stories, I thought ‘oh, where am I going, what kind of club is this, what is this?’ But believe me, we’ve been here for 16 days, at every training session the guys gave their best. As much as I can at the moment. And not to mention discipline in training… I really have no problems, kudos to the boys,” he concluded.
