Kuwait and Bahrain activated their air defense systems early Saturday to respond to aerial threats, the second attack in less than seven days despite a fragile truce between the US and Iran.
“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently responding to enemy missile and drone attacks,” the Kuwaiti military said, later clarifying that the explosions heard across the country were the result of intercepted missiles.
Bahraini authorities issued an airstrike warning and urged residents to seek shelter.
US forces have intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf, the US Central Command said on Friday.
According to CENTCOM, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain hours after US forces shot down four Iranian single-use attack drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz. It is added that these drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
US forces then targeted Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites at Goruk and Qeshm Island to prevent possible further attacks on maritime traffic.
CENTCOM said preliminary assessments show six missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, while the seventh missed its intended target.
