Brahim Diaz scored his fourth goal for Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, earning the hosts a place in the quarter-finals after a narrow 1-0 win against Tanzania in the round of 16 in Rabat.
In a very tense game, Morocco had most of the possession, but the Tanzanian players also created several chances. Simon Msuva and Feisal Salum missed good chances for the East African national team as the score was 0:0.
Morocco’s captain, Achraf Hakimi, hit the crossbar in the 60th minute, and four minutes later assisted Diaz from the right side of the penalty area. The Real Madrid player took advantage of the situation from the dead corner and scored the only goal of the game, surprising most of those present who expected a cross.
With this goal, Diaz secured Morocco a place in the quarter-finals, where they will play the winner of Sunday’s second match between South Africa and Cameroon on January 9.
