Among them, of course, is Cristiano Ronaldo, who by coming to Al Nassr became a symbol of the new wave of popularity of the Saudi championship.
The Portuguese is still in great shape, and he often points out that the quality of football in Saudi Arabia is unfairly underestimated.
In a recent address to the media, Ronaldo compared the Saudi league to European championships, stressing that it is not an easy competition.
“Why don’t goals from the Saudi league count for the Golden Boot? Ask the other players how difficult it is to play here. You might think I’m saying that for personal reasons, but it’s not like that — let them have their say,” he stated.
Ronaldo then added:
“The Saudi league is significantly better than the Portuguese one, and even the French Ligue 1, because practically only PSG exists there.”
His statements caused numerous reactions in the sports world, but also confirmed what many have already noticed — that Saudi football is attracting more and more attention, both for its quality and for the sound names that come to play in the Middle East.
