South Korean authorities, who are investigating impeached President Jun Suk Jeol, are trying to execute an arrest warrant at his official residence, Yonhap news agency reported.
Jun was charged with sedition in connection with the decision to declare martial law on December 3.
Jonhap agency reports that some members of parliament from the ruling party formed a human chain in an attempt to prevent the arrest.
About 6,500 of his supporters gathered in front of Jun’s residence, the report added.
On January 3, investigators were prevented from serving the first arrest warrant issued against the South Korean president after clashes with security and military guards.
South Korea’s Constitutional Court postponed the opening session of President Jun’s impeachment trial on Tuesday after the embattled leader failed to appear in court.
A lawyer advising Jun said the president, who has been holed up in his Seoul mansion for weeks, would not be coming.
The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, and if Jun is not present this time as well, the trial will continue with his legal team representing him.
The Constitutional Court must decide within 180 days whether to remove Jun from office or restore his presidential powers.
June also faces a criminal investigation for alleged sedition, with authorities seeking to execute an arrest warrant after he ignored calls to appear for questioning.
Jun’s failed attempt to impose martial law shocked the nation, but it was overturned just hours later after massive public backlash.
