Critics warn that the new law enables political control over investigations against government. The Chief State Prosecutor, which is allegedly close to Zelenia, by the new law, can directly intervene in the work of Nabu, amending SAPO prosecutors and even suspend the investigation at the Defense request.
The director of NABU, SEEN Krivos warned that the law was threatening the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. “This is the end of the work of two independent institutions,” he said. His claims was supported by the head of the Sapo, Oleksandr Klimenko, as well as a representative of the ruling party Anastasia, which was the only publicly stood up against the law.
At the same time, there were raids in the premises of Nabu and SAPO, and 15 of their employees are under investigation. Some are accused of betrayal, espionage for Russia and even drug smuggling. During the raid, investigators, according to the allegations, used excessive force.
Due to the latest events, the European Union also advertised. The European Commission spokesman said that Naba and Sapo are key to reforms and fight against corruption, and that they must remain independent.
