The Mayor of Sarajevo, Samir Avdić, congratulated the National Day and emphasized the symbolism of the capital as a place of multiculturalism and unity. “Sarajevo is the home of all Bosnians and Herzegovinans, a symbol of multiculturalism and openness. The state is not only built by institutions, the state is also built by its citizens, a strong economy, investment in culture and sports, science and technology, youth, above all in its education,” said Avdić.
President of SABNOR BiH Sead Đulić emphasized the importance of the idea of ZAVNOBiH, which remains the foundation of the defense and construction of Bosnia and Herzegovina. “The idea of ZAVNOBiH and what ZAVNOBiH is is our most powerful tool, our most powerful weapon in the fight for Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Đulić.
The Academy also included a conversation with distinguished guests from political and academic life, including Prof. Ph.D. Ivo Komšić, Academician Ejup Ganić, Academician Mirko Pejanović and Minister of Justice of Sarajevo Canton Darja Softić Kadenić. They talked about the importance of ZAVNOBiH, contemporary challenges and the future of the country.
During the program, recognitions of Honorary Citizen of the City of Sarajevo were awarded to the former mayor of Dayton and American congressman Michael Ray Turner, and university professor David Pettigrew. Turner thanked for the recognition and emphasized his commitment to security, prosperity and peace in BiH, while Pettigrew emphasized the importance of solidarity with the victims, condemning hate speech and strengthening the culture of remembrance.
The artistic part of the program was marked by the performances of Lejla Jusić and Amila Ravkić with guitarist Elvira Solak, they performed the songs “Bosno moja” and “S one strane Pliva”. Special applause was caused by the actor Izudin Bajrović who emotionally interpreted passages from Josip Pejaković’s poem “How painful there is no Bosnia”.
This ceremony in the Town Hall showed that the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains a day of remembrance for the courage, unity and dedication to the building of the state of all its citizens.
