American television network CNN has announced that it is laying off about six percent of its workforce as part of major changes.
The management of the informative news network, which has existed for 45 years, among other things, announced a new digital strategy and a different set of broadcasts on weekdays.
CNN CEO Mark Thompson said that the media company will soon introduce an improved streaming service, a redesigned digital footprint and new subscription services.
“Our parent company ‘Warner Bros. Discovery’ will invest $70 million in CNN’s plans, Thompson said.
The announcement of layoffs means that about 200 jobs will be lost, although Thompson said in a notice to staff that many new jobs will be introduced, so the company does not expect a drastic drop in the total number of employees by the end of the year, reports Bankar me.
“The changes we are announcing today are part of this great news organization’s response to profound and irreversible changes in the way audiences in America and around the world consume news,” Thompson wrote in a memo to staff.
