Data from the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina show that the largest turnover was achieved in medicines for the treatment of malignant diseases, while therapies for diabetes, heart diseases and antibiotics are among the most represented.
In 2025, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina allocated more than 1.18 billion convertible marks for medicines. The largest part of the turnover refers to drugs for the treatment of malignant diseases, diabetes and heart disease, according to the data of the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The turnover of medicines in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2025 exceeded 1.18 billion convertible marks, according to the latest data from the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The total value of the turnover of medicines was 1,181,345,058.43 KM, of which 202.46 million KM refers to domestically produced medicines, while as much as 978.88 million KM was set aside for imported medicines.
The largest financial turnover was achieved in the group of antineoplastics and immunomodulators, that is, drugs for the treatment of malignant diseases and regulation of the immune system. 242.5 million KM were spent on these therapies, which represents 20.53 percent of the total drug turnover.
Medicines for the digestive system and metabolism are in second place, with a turnover of 185.3 million KM, while medicines for the cardiovascular system took third place with a total turnover of 172 million KM.
Medicines that act on the blood and blood-forming organs, on which 117 million KM were spent, and medicines for the nervous system, whose turnover amounted to 116.9 million KM, follow.
Observed according to therapeutic groups, the greatest financial value was achieved by drugs for the treatment of malignant diseases, followed by drugs for diabetes, therapies for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases, anticoagulants, as well as antibiotics for systemic use.
The Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasizes that the data refer exclusively to the financial value of drug sales, and do not represent the actual consumption of the population or the number of issued drug packages.
Published data indicate the continuation of high allocations for the health system, with the largest part of the funds going to therapies for chronic and severe diseases that require long-term and expensive treatment, writes NOISE.
