Citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also from many countries around the world, have been arriving since the early hours of the morning at the Srebrenica Memorial Center – Potočari, where the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide is being celebrated today.
Columns of cars and buses are moving towards Potočari, and in the valley of white sights are coming members of the families of those killed, survivors, participants of the campaign, citizens, delegations and representatives of the international community.
Thousands of men and boys killed in July 1995 will be honored today at the site of the former United Nations protected zone, while the remains of ten identified victims will be buried at a collective funeral.
Their remains were found in mass graves and identified after a long process. Although in most cases no complete remains were found, the families made the decision to bury them in order to have a place where they could honor their loved ones after more than three decades.
More than six thousand participants of the Peace March arrived in Potočare, who for the previous three days walked the route along which the inhabitants of Srebrenica tried to break through to the free territory in July 1995.
During the day, the arrival of numerous domestic and international officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, religious communities and political and social life is expected.
The commemorative program begins at 10:30 a.m. in the area of the former Battery Factory, where speeches by dignitaries are scheduled. Laying flowers and honoring the victims is planned at 12 noon at the Memorial Stone.
The religious part of the program in the musala of the Memorial Center will begin at 1:20 p.m. After the funeral prayer and prayer for the martyrs of the genocide, ten identified victims will be buried, it says RTV Slon.
