The news of his death appeared on Russian Telegram groups, where his comrades expressed their sadness over the death of Živković.
“During the night, January 2, in the heavy battles for the liberation of the Kursk region, our friend and brother, the commander of the assault platoon, Bratislav Živković, died as a hero,” one group said.
Živković was known for years for his activities in foreign war conflicts, especially in Ukraine, where he fought on the side of pro-Russian separatists. His participation in these conflicts began in 2014, when he went to Crimea as the leader of a group of Serbian volunteers, during the Russian annexation of that Ukrainian peninsula.
Živković was at the center of numerous controversies in Serbia as well. In 2018, he was arrested on suspicion of organizing the participation of Serbian citizens in foreign war conflicts, offering them a monthly fee of 200 euros. According to information, the funds for the engagement came from the budget of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic, and not directly from Russia, as was speculated.
In 2017, Živković was designated as a threat to Romania’s national security due to his actions. He was banned from entering the country for 15 years after he was caught photographing military radars on the Black Sea coast and trying to transmit their GPS coordinates. The ban was later extended to other NATO countries.
In 2023, Živković was present in the audience during the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was recorded by the cameras of Russian state agencies.
