Bosnia BH Telecom basketball players created a real sensation in the second round of the FIBA Europe Cup by defeating the favored Murcia from Spain with a score of 87:72.
In a crowded Zetra, the Students played perhaps the best match in the last few years and completely outplayed their rival, who was considered the absolute favorite.
Under the leadership of temporary coach Muhamed Pašalić, Bosnia showed energy, combativeness and desire from the very start, which was the key to success.
Already in the first quarter, the home team took the lead with 22:17, and in the second with a series of points by Atić, West and Šalić, they reached a big +18. By halftime, however, the advantage was reduced, so the score was 48:38 at the break.
The second part of the match was entirely about Bosnia. Audige and Šalić scored from all positions, and Halilović dominated under the hoops.
After a 6:0 run at the beginning of the third quarter, the Students controlled the pace of the game and maintained a double-digit advantage. The crowd was brought to its feet by Atić’s triples and several attractive actions by West.
Until the end of the match, Murcia tried to come back, but had no solution for the playful home team. In the last quarter, Bosnia increased the rhythm and achieved a convincing victory, sending a clear message that there is something to look for in the European competition.
This is Bosnia’s first win in the FIBA Europe Cup this season, after losing to Start from Lublin in the first round, and an excellent start to a new era under the leadership of Muhamed Pašalić.
The atmosphere in Zetra was great, and the fans applauded their heroes for a long time after the match, who once again reminded of the glorious days of Sarajevo basketball.
