According to the latest Henley Passport Index for 2025, Bosnia and Herzegovina has moved up to 47th place in the world, with the possibility of traveling to 122 countries without a visa. This shift shows that BiH enters the group of 50 most trusted passports in the world, which confirms the quality and security of our identification system, as well as international trust in the country.
“BiH’s rank on the global list of passports is not only a question of mobility, but an indicator of the trust of other countries in our institutions, documents and security standards. The IDDEEA agency continuously strengthens the technological infrastructure and harmonizes all processes with European regulations and ICAO standards. Our biometric solutions and digital identities already today meet the highest requirements applied in the EU area,” said Prof. Ph.D. Almir Badnjević, director of the IDDEEA BiH Agency.
However, the key factor in the creation of visa-free regimes and bilateral agreements that directly affect the rank of BiH is the activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, which conducts international negotiations and concludes agreements on travel facilities.
“That is why it is important that technical security and international diplomacy act in sync. The IDDEEA agency builds trust through document security and standards, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs opens doors through bilateral agreements. This is the only way to create credibility that results in greater freedom of movement for our citizens,” said Badnjević.
According to data from Henley & Partners, ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the list are currently 34 European countries, of which 26 are members of the European Union, and 12 countries outside the European continent. Thus, BiH has positioned itself in the top 20% of world passports, with a trend of continuous progress in the last five years.
The IDDEEA Agency, in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, will continue to strengthen the security, technical and diplomatic capacities of the state, in order to ensure further improvement of the international status of BiH, both in physical and digital identity.
